Crafting dolls

I’d like to write a few lines about one of those other interests that I have mentioned in the preface of the blog. Today about the pleasure of making dolls. I’ve written about it before, Some have encouraged me, others have looked at me as a freak. It’s been a few years since I took a break, for lack of time and closure. I came back just as shy, but I realized I hadn’t healed.

To craft a doll takes time and a lot of patience. I don’t necessarily make a plan or even a sketch. I start with what I have on hand, match colours, match textures, sometimes if I’m not happy I give up and start all over again. I usually work for my own pleasure, and in the end, I’m very happy with what I come up with. I often make the little handmade man as a gift. I don’t deny that I’ve also had material gains, not very big ones. Nor is my effort in this regard very insistent. What remains is the pleasure of creating and giving life, and ultimately the joy of making someone happy. And that is no small thing.

My dolls are for playing, mainly for children. However, I have had the pleasure, and somewhat surprise, to find that it is not just me, a regular woman, who is crazy about them. I make them out of natural materials: wool, cotton, especially mohair knitting yarns, anti-allergic filling. I sew, knit, match, arrange and photograph, especially in summer, during long holidays.
